No, I’m not going to tell you everything.

And that’s on purpose. Some things are better experienced firsthand — unfiltered, unexpected, and raw. I want your imagination to float freely before you enter the theater. Let Caryatid! by Yiorgos Kapoutzides surprise you, move you, and stay with you long after the curtain falls.
But then… you might ask: Why write this post at all?
Well, I’m here to share my version of it — what I saw, what I felt, and what I found absolutely fascinating.
🏛️ What Caryatid Portrays on Stage
The Caryatid is not just a statue. She’s a symbol — of endurance, silence, and pride; wait here ...
But in this play, she speaks.
She tells a story that many of us have forgotten — or never really learned. A story of sacrifice, identity, beauty, and betrayal. Because while the Caryatid represents the glory and resilience of Greek heritage, the play challenges us with a tough truth: Are we truly honoring our heritage, or simply exploiting it?
We admire the view, but do we understand the struggle behind it?
We profit from the symbol, but do we protect what it represents?
Kapoutzides doesn’t give easy answers. Instead, he lets the statue — the silent observer of centuries — speak her truth. And trust me, it hits home.
👁️ Why You Should Watch It

Caryatid! is a rare, beautiful blend — a perfect synthesis of ancient and modern Greece, and more importantly, of ancient and modern Greeks.
It gently, and sometimes not so gently, confronts the contradiction we live with:We take pride in being Greek, but do we really understand what that means?
You’ve heard the complaints: “Modern Greeks are destroying Greece.”But is that true? Was it always like this? What has changed… and what hasn’t changed at all?
This play doesn't preach — it reflects. It opens up space for thought, for dialogue, for uncomfortable but necessary questions.

🌀 Final Thought: Blame, Power, and Responsibility
It’s always easy to blame. The system. The government. The youth. The past. The foreigners.
Caryatid! isn’t just about heritage — it’s about power.
Who holds it?Who uses it?Who gets blamed… and who gets away with it?
It challenges us to rethink how we treat our culture:Do we truly value it, or just profit from the view?
This play doesn’t give easy answers. It holds up a mirror — and quietly asks:What part do you play?
